Robert was born in France and came to Canada with his parents who settled near Bannockburn. He married Charlotte Henry who was born in Ireland. She was a milner and worked in Madoc when they met. They had four children, Fredrick, Lillian, Anne, and Nora.
They built a house on the north side of Monk Street across from Bridge Street west entrance. They had a market farm and as well Robert was also a carpenter. He was active in local politics and he was on town council.
Robert had an office in the Moxam building on Hastings street and during the WWII years he was in charge of distribution of the ration books.
Robert was a Bancroft police constable as well as a Hastings County police officer for many years.
